Jennifer Lopez, a Latina actress who was raised in the Bronx, is facing a pretty serious scandal. Media Take Out learned that Black Twitter is trying to unseat them.
It’s all because of a viral video circulating on Twitter of Jennie From The Block jumping on stage during a Fat Joe concert and singing along to the lyrics.
At one point in the song, Fat Joe stops singing the lyrics and J Lo is heard yelling the lyrics, “N*gg* this is life.”
A prominent member of Black Twitter reposted the video, also pointing out that Jennifer has a history of stealing credit for lyrics sung by prominent African American R&B star Ashanti.
Last month, Ashanti spoke about what it meant to finally receive public recognition from fans for her work on two Jennifer Lopez hits after 20 years. The list included the remixes of “Ain’t It Funny” and “I’m Real”.
Although Ashanti wrote the lyrics to both tracks, controversy erupted after her vocals for “I’m Real,” which was recorded as a reference track for Jennifer, ended up being used in the final version of the song. When the single was released in 2001, Jennifer was the only one credited as a popular singer.
Here’s the tweet that went viral.
It’s not clear if Jennifer Lopez plans to respond to the controversy on social media.
