Jersey Shore humpback whale surprises Bensalem, Bucks County father and son fishing at in Belmar, New Jersey

BELMAR, NJ (WPVI) — A humpback whale surprised a father and son fishing off the Jersey shore.

Doug and Zach Piller of Bensalem, Bucks County, started fishing Wednesday in Belmar, Monmouth County.

As Zach pulled out his cell phone to take a video of his father’s catch, the whale broke through and crashed into their boat.

Zach posted the video to Instagram and wrote, “Epic whale footage. Hitting the side of our boat!”

In the video, Zach can be heard screaming at the sight of the whale.

“Oh (expletive)! I have that on video!” he said.

Zach said his dad managed not to lose his fish and “wasn’t concerned at all.”

The couple had sighted sharks and dolphins earlier in the day but it came as a total shock.
