Jim Jones Says He Helped Kid Cudi Blow Up

Jim Jones says he was responsible for bringing Kid Cudi into the mainstream.

“Kid Cudi was nobody,” said Capo. “He worked in a damn store at Koch Records. I got signed to Koch Records. I didn’t even know Kid Cudi worked down there. Lisa Brunt’s nephew did some chores for me at my studio back then and he’s like, ‘Yo, I manage these video directors and I want them to shoot a video for you’ and so on. I say, ‘Show me the video.’ They showed me the video, it ended up being a Kid Cudi video that they shot for him for free.”

He continued, “They like, ‘That’s the kid who works under Koch at the damn rock-n-roll joint. They just made it for him,’ and I said, ‘Give me the record and I’ll let you all make a video.’ You got me the record. I made the record. They shot the video.”

“I put it on YouTube. Somebody at Hot 97 stole it from YouTube and started playing it on Hot 97,” Jones added. “When he got his deal, they took me off the record and did ads without me on the record. DJ Cassidy made this, you dig. You know I met him, but this is my man. It’s always a joke, but that’s how it happens. I am solely responsible for Kid Cudi’s career. You can tell him that and he’ll tell you, ‘He’s right.’
