John Duarte, Adam Gray on abortion, inflation, Capitol riot

Democratic Rep. Adam Gray and Republican farm owner John Duarte are vying to represent the heavily agricultural 13th congressional district in the Central Valley.

The race is one of 10 key contests in the Nov. 8 midterm elections that could decide whether Democrats retain control of the House or Republicans take control. No incumbent chose to run in the district created by the redrawing of post-census congressional maps every ten years, creating a rare vacant seat.

Gray’s answers came from a questionnaire The Times sent out to candidates in California’s convention competitions, and the answers have been edited for clarity and length. Duarte did not respond, so information about his views was gathered from his campaign website, video of a candidate debate and coverage of the race.
