Judas Priest has confirmed that former guitarist KK Downing will join them at the 2022 Rock & Roll showcase this November.
The influential British heavy metal band will receive the award for Outstanding Music at this year’s ceremony. The award was first established in 2000 with the category “Bicycle riders”; it became the Award for Outstanding Music 10 years later.
Rock Hall recitals that often include former members of the band are held. Judas Priest’s celebration will be no different, as bassist Ian Hill has confirmed that Downing, who left the band in 2011 citing differences with the band and management, will be participating.
“The rule as I understand it, is anyone who’s been with the band for 20 years,” Hill said. Metal hammer. “Richie [Faulkner, Downing’s replacement] It’s sad not to be featured, but truly deserves to be the driving force of the band for almost 12 years now. “
“Obviously Ken [Downing] will be there,” Hill added. “[Drummer] Les Binks were with us all those years, so did Scott [Travis, another former drummer]so he will also be part of the introduction. ”
He also acknowledges former Judas Priest drummers such as Dave Holland, who “was in the band for a long time,” he said.
When asked if anyone in the band had spoken to Downing, Hill replied: “He’s spoken to management and said he’ll definitely be there. It should be good. ”
In a recent interview with Billboards, the Halford frontman said of the band’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination – marking their third overall. The chief described the nomination as “a stroke of luck” and “a rush”.
“This year’s selection… was crazy,” he said. “My mind was spinning, ‘I have to do a duet with Dolly Parton! I got to do a duet with Kate Bush! ‘ If Lionel [Richie] and Priest come in, I think we’ll both dance on the ceiling. “
Featured performers of this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame include Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Pat Benatar and Carly Simon. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis will also receive the 2022 Music Excellence Award.
Meanwhile, Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner weighed in on Dolly Parton’s recent request to be withdrawn from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations.
