Judge upholds two of Delaware auditor Kathleen McGuiness’ three convictions

The judge is now expected to set a date for sentencing the charges.
DOVER, Delaware– A judge has upheld two jury convictions against the Delaware Democratic State Examiner for official misconduct and conflicts of interest.
However, the judge threw out a third misdemeanor conviction for improperly structuring contract payments to a consulting firm.
With his ruling on Tuesday, the judge dismissed Kathy McGuiness’ request for a new trial.
The judge is now expected to set a date for sentencing on the charges, which come with a presumptive suspended sentence.
McGuinness, meanwhile, plans to appeal and remains committed to re-election ahead of a September 13 primary.
McGuiness is the first Delaware state elected official to be convicted of criminal charges during his tenure.
