Set in the lush settings of the French Riviera and modern scenes in London, the series, based on a best-selling novel by acclaimed writer Guillaume Musso, offers a contrast between past and present.

It begins with three friends planning a reunion at their old high school.

The friends in question have grown apart over the past 25 years and lost contact, but a dark secret connects them.

The disappearance of a high school girl still haunts them, and it seems someone knows more than they’re letting on.

However, right from the start of the programme, ITV viewers were taken aback by the constant changes in location and the ‘confusing’ storyline.

Fans took to X – formerly Twitter – to comment on the show’s opener.

One wrote: “I’m already confused, lots of hopping and it’s only been 8 minutes.”

Another added: “I’m already confused!”

A third moaned: “Quite an odd structure, rushing this part at the beginning and then slowly going through today.”

A fourth admitted: “There’s a lot going on in the first five minutes!”

A fifth admitted: “It annoys me a bit.”

The show’s cast members include Ioan Gruffudd, Gregory Fitoussi and Rupert Graves.
