Kade Ruotolo plans to submit Shinya Aoki in any way possible

Kade Ruotolo is carrying his entire arsenal of weapons as he makes his ONE Championship debut against Shinya Aoki savant.

Ruotolo will first enter the ring to face Aoki in a grappling match presented at ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs. Vietnam. The blockbuster event will be televised live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on May 20.

In an interview with ONE Championship, 19-year-old Ruotolo said he will try to remove Aoki’s offense and lock down whatever he can get in the situation.

Kade Ruotolo says:

“Whether it’s a D’Arce, a deadlock up front, if I get in his foot, or it could be a buggy choke, I think I have a lot of different paths to win for. this match. I’m diverse with my submissions, so it’s hard to pick a specific one. We’ll see what he brings to me.”

While it will be a grappling match for qualifications, Ruotolo added that he hopes their fight will start with wrestling or judo.

“[I expect] maybe a strong wrestling exchange, judo exchange, some kind of takedown exchange underfoot. Within a minute or two, the fight was sure to take place. And I think, no matter if I’m under or he’s under, right after that moment, I think I’m going to find submission,” commented Ruotolo.

Kade Ruotolo Plans to Identify Aoki’s Weakness

Although Aoki is considered one of the best serving professionals in ONE Championship, the Japanese legend is primarily a mixed martial artist, having won the ONE lightweight world championship multiple times.

Aoki fought in two grappling matches against Garry Tonon and Marat Gafurov in the ONE Championship. However, in MMA, ‘Tobikan Judan’ collected 30 wins.

Ruotolo praises how Aoki maintains a steady pace in his grappling and near-perfect transitions whenever he’s on the ground. However, the 19-year-old rookie is keen to find out the weakness that the 39-year-old opponent may have.

“As you have seen in his entire MMA career, [jiu-jitsu] is his main weapon, right? I just want to find his weakness and execute my plan.”

Kade Ruotolo added that one of the first times he watched Aoki was during the Japanese legend’s match against Garry Tonon, whom his twin brother Tye will face at ONE 157.

“I know [Aoki is] a bit of a horse. He looks strong in terms of class. And he seems like he doesn’t make too many mistakes. He is very good at keeping a steady tempo and a consistent rhythm in his matches. Curiously, one of his only jiu-jitsu fights that I watched was against Garry, Tye’s opponent, and he made a big impression on me. ”
