Kali Linux 2022.2 Lands With Desktop Tweaks, Hilarious Hollywood-Hacking-Homaging Screensaver

The latest version of Kali Linux shows that developers love to reboot and have fun while developing powerful hacking tools.

Offensive Security, the developers of Kali Linux, has released the latest version of its distribution focused on penetration testing and security, Kali Linux 2022.2. The new release comes with many improvements and shows off the comedic side of the project with a screensaver homage to famous hacking scenes from Hollywood.

What’s New in Kali Linux 2022.2?

The new version of Kali Linux has been announced in an official blog post. The developers also took to Twitter to announce the new release:

As is standard in many updates to distro releases, the most notable changes in Debian-based Kali LInux are to its desktop environment. Kali provides users with many default options: GNOME, KDE and Xfce.

The main attraction of Kali is that it offers a number of popular security and networking tools, including the Nmap port scanner, which is installed by default. There are several new tools coming out in 2022.2. This includes the BruteShark network forensic analysis tool.

Kali Linux 2022.2 includes the latest versions of GNOME and KDE, and adds tweaks of their own. GNOME’s version is 42, which introduces two new applications, the Console terminal emulator, as well as a text editor named after the Text Editor. It also has an enhanced dark mode. They also smooth out the experience of the KDE and XFCE environments. They also fixed many bugs.

Users running Kali Linux as VirtualBox guests can now use the shared folder feature more easily, as it adds the user account to the appropriate group permissions.
