Kanye West’s former lawyers finally track him down

Kanye West’s former lawyers have finally tracked down the elusive artist and cut ties with him, despite reports that he’s facing a spate of lawsuits.

Many companies and business partners parted ways with West last fall over his racist and anti-Semitic behavior, but his lawyers had to give him the statutory notice period before dropping him as a client. The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, led the attorneys at Greenberg Traurig LLP on a wild goose hunt for months, Billboard reported, evading their attempts to minister to him.

After the “Runaway” actor evaded attorneys, including changing his phone number, the company considered taking the extraordinary measure of buying an ad in local Los Angeles newspapers to get his attention, Billboard said, citing legal documents. But on January 27, lawyers were able to locate Ye and served a notice through an unnamed lawyer.

“The address at which Ye was personally served is not one publicly associated with Ye or his businesses, but one that Ye nevertheless frequents,” the rapper’s former attorneys wrote in the court filings. “The site also appears to be used primarily by people and organizations not affiliated with Ye or his companies.”

Lawyers for Greenberg Traurig were not immediately available for comment Monday.

Ye continues to face numerous other lawsuits and owes millions to former business partners and music labels, Business Insider reported late last year. His legal woes include allegations of copyright infringement arising from the music sampling for his 2022 album Donda 2, according to the report, as well as contractual disputes, with many claiming the artist didn’t pay them for their work.

Among them was an ex-CEO who is suing the Yeezy designer for $4.5 million, the Sun reported, claiming he was unpaid for 18 months of working as a financial advisor. The former manager also made efforts to find Ye to serve this lawsuit on him. Ye’s elusive behavior led to unfounded rumors that the rapper was gone.

Most of Yes’s business associates, including his closest friends, left him over the past year as he continued to make hateful statements about Jews, denied the Holocaust and praised Hitler. He was banned from Twitter in December for violating rules on incitement to violence.

Last month, Ye reportedly had a wedding ceremony with Australian architect Bianca Censori, who works for Yeezy. The couple have not submitted any certification that would make it an official marriage.

Two months earlier, Ye and Kim Kardashian had finalized their divorce. The couple continue to co-parent their four young children, an experience the beauty mogul and reality TV personality recently admitted was “really f-hard.”
