Kate Middleton Attends Her First Buckingham Palace Garden Party of the Summer

For the royal family’s first garden party at Buckingham Palace since 2019, Kate Middleton Make sure to wear most of the seasonal clothing.

For Wednesday’s event, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a coral blazer with an A-line skirt by Emilia Wickstead, a dress she owns is also powder blue, complemented by a matching pair of Emmy London heels. She completed the look with a vintage Josef clutch and a Jane Taylor swirl coin. Kate also previously wore this bright pink hat during the Trooping the Color contest in 2017.

The royal family participated in the garden party by Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessexand Queen Elizabeth‘s cousin Princess Alexandra. Her husband, Prince William, was unable to attend because he was scheduled to appear at the Submarine Devotee Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum. Kate and the rest of the family then went on to welcome some of the thousands of guests invited to the palace grounds to acknowledge their acts of public service.

Buckingham Palace’s annual summer garden parties have long been a tradition, dating back to the 1860s. After the cancellation of both the 2020 and 2021 seasons due to the pandemic, this year it’s more than just three. A garden party will be held at Buckingham Palace in May, a party will be held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh in June and the Queen has authorized the Not Forgotten Society Annual Garden Party also celebrated by their patron Princess Anne on 12 May. The event is used by the king as a way for the king to pay tribute to those who have made great contributions to the UK. Guests are also invited to enjoy tea and cakes while making and mingling with the royal family. In fact, according to the royal family’s website, about 27,000 cups of tea are served and 20,000 slices of cake are eaten each year.

Traditionally, the party is also attended by Queen Elizabeth. However, earlier this month, the king announced that she would no longer be able to attend as she has been forced to withdraw from numerous recent skirmishes with the royal family due to ongoing mobility issues.
