Kenashia ‘Shia’ Douglas – Ashanti’s Sister – Speaks Out About Abuse At The Hands Of Her Ex-Fiancé

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Ashanti’s sister, Kenashia “Shia” Douglas, opened up about her abusive relationship with her ex-fiancé, hip-hop brand ambassador Slow Bucks.

Media Take Out learned that Shia has shared deeply disturbing photos of the abuse she suffered from the man she once loved.

This October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a month dedicated to recognizing survivors of domestic violence and being a voice for their victims.

A few years ago, Kenashia “Shia” Douglas – sister of singer Ashanti – revealed that she was involved in an abusive relationship with her ex-fiancé Slow Bucks. On her 32nd birthday in 2020, Shia shared photos and videos of her battered face, having her teeth knocked out by a man she was once madly in love with, and clips of her mouth and jaw reconstruction surgery.

Since then, Shia has been an advocate for domestic violence and talks about how she is on her way to healing her past and all the trauma she has suffered. To kick off the month of October, Shia shared an extremely disturbing and vulnerable post on Instagram about how she was horribly abused by her ex-fiancé. She also spoke of pregnancy.

“Thank God! My ancestors, angels and guides who pulled me through this war zone alive!” Shia wrote in the caption of a collage of images showing her injuries. “It was toxic, and it wasn’t just for obvious reasons Reasons dangerous but also because to the outside world everything seemed fine…but those closest to us knew! But I didn’t know how to help.It got to a point where the abuse set in was normal behavior and I would fight back to gather whatever I could to protect myself.Honestly, many of us grew up in a toxic environment where the adults around were fighting or fighting, to whom we seem to normalize us.. this is the beginning of our inner childhood wounds and trauma… I didn’t have a normal childhood and although my parents were together, the circumstances of our family dynamic had me strong wanted to do things differently with my own family. My undying loyalty and strong desire to start my own family made me accept things I should never have done,” she wrote.

“I was beaten, spat on, strangled, pushed to the ground. And was threatened with an a [gun emoji],” she continued.

“I look at these pictures and hold grace and patience for the woman I was and everything she didn’t know! I love her and thank her for her role in my journey. I don’t consider myself a victim or a survivor, it’s all part of my story, my life and my journey…”
