Khabib Nurmagomedov enjoys “grappling day” training session with Islam Makhachev

Khabib Nurmagomedov is still in solid gym time, despite taking an active break from competition in October 2020.

In a new Instagram post, ‘The Eagle’ shared a photo during practice with two of his friends and teammates, Islam Makhachev and Zubaira Tukhugov.

He captioned the image:

“Struggling day. It was a very good day for my Brothers.”

In Russian, he added:

“For no back pain, fight every day.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is busy retiring, promoting the fighters in his team and promoting his Eagle FC. Most recently Nurmagomedov called out Dana White, asking Islam Makhachev to get his next UFC light belt hit and Charles Oliveira.

@danawhite you have no choice but to fight Oliveira vs Islam in AbuDhabi October 22. Perfect day, Perfect location, Perfect opponent with perfect 10 vs 11 win.@MAKHACHEVMMA @ufc

While that request seems to go against the UFC’s plan to pit Makhachev against Beneil Dariush, pressure from other key individuals like Joe Rogan could make all the difference.

On the Eagle FC front, Nurmagomedov will take on Eagle FC 47 on May 20 in Miami, Florida. The event was featured by former UFC Junior heavyweight champion dos Santos vs. Yorgan De Castro and featured UFC experts Hector Lombard and Thiago Silva in the co-main match.

Khabib Nurmagomedov shares his prediction for Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira

Khabib Nurmagomedov believes his star pupil Islam Makhachev is the one to beat the beltless champion Charles Oliveira. In a recent Instagram story, ‘The Eagle’ shared his predictions for how the fight between the two top lightweight athletes will play out. He wrote:

“My prediction is 3 rounds max. No matter how good he is, Islam is better than him. Just remember these words.”

The hardest part of the war was the signing of Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. It’s never been easy for lightweight athletes to get to the UFC title. Tony Ferguson famously won thirteen matches in a row and only had to fight for an interim title. Islam Makhachev is currently on ten consecutive wins, but none of them have surpassed opponents in the top 10 of the tournament.

That’s a big reason why the UFC seems to insist that Makhachev fight 6th place Beneil Dariush before winning the title. However, with money being a big motivator in prize pools, it’s always possible that the UFC will heed Khabib Nurmagomedov’s claim and book Oliveira vs. Makhachev in Abu Dhabi this October.
