Knott’s Berry Farm’s weekend ban on unaccompanied minors, introduced last month after a series of fights with teenagers, is being extended to all nights of the theme park’s week-long Halloween after-hours event.
The existing escort policy requires all visitors under the age of 17 to be accompanied by an adult under the age of 21 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. According to an announcement from the Buena Park theme park, the same rules will apply to all Knott’s Scary Farm event nights running from September 22nd to October 31st.
Companions must present a valid photo ID with date of birth for age verification and no more than four minors are allowed per companion.
“Accompanying persons must escort their party upon entry, remain in the park during their visit, and be available by phone throughout their stay,” the park’s announcement said. “Guests 17 years of age or younger found unaccompanied in the park will be evicted.”
The policy was originally put in place after several fights broke out between teenagers, forcing the park to close three hours early on July 16.
Videos on social media showed teenagers delivering punches and security guards engaged in the fight. The violence sent Park visitors walk For safety.
The fighting brought a response from the Buena Park Police Department. Two people injured in the riot were taken to hospital by paramedics.
“The safety of our guests and employees has always been a top priority at Knott’s Berry Farm,” park officials said in a statement after the fighting. “We are committed to ensuring Knott’s Berry Farm remains a place where families and friends come together to enjoy a unique park full of indigenous experiences and immersive entertainment.”
The park also said it will increase security screening procedures for Knott’s Scary Farm.
During the event, all bags will be searched before guests enter and no one will be admitted with a bag larger than 6½” x 4½” x 2″, including purses, backpacks or diaper bags.
