Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch made headlines during last week’s race at Darlington Raceway for leaving his Toyota #18 in the pit after his early exit from the race.
Some NASCAR fans and pundits were unimpressed with Busch’s actions. Longtime NASCAR Cup Series owner Tommy Baldwin recently discussed the actions of Joe Gibbs Racing and expressed his thoughts.
In the “Door Bumper Clear” podcast, Baldwin doesn’t know how he feels about Busch’s move. He went on to say that if it weren’t for the talent that Busch has, he wouldn’t make any sponsor or owner drive a race car with that attitude. He later said that Busch had intentionally left the car on the pit lane to disturb the race instead of entering the garage.
“Well, I’ve said it before on my social media, and I’ll say it again. Kyle Busch is a small man. Ordinary and simple. He is. If it weren’t for his talent, no sponsor or owner would let him drive a race car. I think he just relies on what he does and how he does it too far. All he did yesterday was interrupt the race. He could have turned into that garage, no problem.”
Busch’s mid-race move caused mayhem, with some arguing that the veteran should receive a severe punishment. However, he has yet to receive any penalties from NASCAR.
“I don’t like it at all” – Clint Bowyer on Kyle Busch
Retired NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer was on the air with commentary as Kyle Busch exited the car. Clearly frustrated by Busch’s move, he went on to say from Fox Broadcast Booth:
“I don’t like that at all. He could have done better to deal with that. Now it is in the path of 24. Just get out and walk away. I know the frustration and I understand, but you have to do a little better than that. “
Darlington is Busch’s second DNF of the season. Despite that, he is sixth on the championship standings with 364 points.
