Kylie Jenner faces Astroworld-themed backlash at the party

Kylie Jenner has faced criticism over the recent birthday party she threw for her two young children, which was centered around her baby daddy Travis Scott’s Astroworld music festival – an event that left 10 concert-goers dead in 2021.

On her Instagram, Jenner shared videos and photos of the lavish party for 1-year-old Aire and 5-year-old Stormi Webster, who were born four years and a day apart. The event featured large gray inflatable heads, similar to one at the entrance to the 2021 Houston Music Festival. This performance was a reference to the cover of Scott’s 2018 album Astroworld.

At the party, guests could walk into the mouths of large inflatable heads resembling children. Stormi’s tunnel mouth led to archways made of pink and rainbow balloons, while Aire’s featured toy cars and a replica Pacific Coast Highway.

The “Kardashians” personality is known for throwing expensive parties for her kids with Scott – born Jacques Bermon Webster II. Stormi was gifted with diamonds in 2019 at just one year old.

For other birthdays, Jenner also used the Astroworld theme, erecting an inflatable head of her daughter and naming one bash “Stormi World.” But after the 2021 festival incident, in which festival-goers were crushed in a crowd, she appeared to have withdrawn the motive.

But following the revival of the issue this week, many voiced their criticism, accusing her of being insensitive to the festival’s victims.

“Kylie Jennifer [sic] Still throwing Astroworld themed parties after what happened in Astroworld is gross. A 9 year old child died there please.” wrote one user on TwitterReferring to Dallas-born Ezra Blount.

“Kind of distasteful for Kylie to decorate her kids birthday party like Astroworld considering what happened.” a Milwaukee user commented.

“Why does Kylie throw an Astroworld birthday party for Stormi every year… you have so much money try something new,” she wrote a user from Toronto.

One person called the birthday party “a bit creepy‘ while another Jenner called out withdraw the topic.

Shortly after the 2021 tragedy, Jenner issued a statement saying she was “heartbroken and devastated” by the incident.

“I want to be clear that we were not aware of any deaths until the news broke after the show and there was no way filming or performing could have continued,” she wrote at the time. “I send my deepest condolences to all families at this difficult time.”

In recent months, the billionaire beauty mogul has also been criticized for taking a 17-minute flight from Camarillo to Van Nuys on a private jet, mainly because of the flight’s high carbon emissions.

Last month, Jenner also faced backlash — along with some praise — for attending a runway show in a dress with a lifelike lion’s head on the right shoulder. Despite promising that no animals were harmed in its creation, some said the play glorifies the killing of animals and encourages animal cruelty.
