A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy went missing after an accident in the Santa Clarita area, prompting a search and a heavy law enforcement presence in the area Friday night.
The circumstances of the crash were unclear, and spokesmen and staff from the sheriff’s department were unable to answer several questions posed by The Times.
The deputy, identified only as a man, was found around 10:20 p.m., said Deputy Brenda Serna, a department spokeswoman. Serna could not say where the deputy was found, nor provide any details as to when and where the crash occurred.
He was conscious and breathing when found, Serna said.
She directed the Times to the Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley Station for more details.
A Santa Clarita Valley Station deputy said the guard commander would not comment or provide details and referred the Times back to the Sheriff’s Information Office.
The crash happened near Pico Canyon Road and North Southern Oaks Drive at Stevenson Ranch, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.
The MP was later found at his nearby home, the signal reported, citing a source familiar with the incident.
The source told Signal the MP was on his way home from work when he crashed his patrol car and was picked up by another off-duty MP.
Video captured by a Signal journalist shows a sheriff’s department SUV in roadside bushes. Several police officers were gathered nearby.
Further details were not known as of late Friday.
