Labor Day 2022: Crowds decend on Atlantic City as end of summer nears

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (WPVI) — The boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey was packed for the unofficial last weekend of summer.

Some people on the beach were thinking about the summer of 2022.

“We traveled, came to the beach, went hiking,” said Shobha of King of Prussia.

The Gadsons were the focus today.

“I decided to bring him here for his birthday so he can play, eat and have fun and enjoy the nice weather,” said Sheila Gadson of Newark, New Jersey.

The weather was a birthday present for Kiwan Gadson.

“It’s not hot, too hot, it’s just right, not muggy, and it’s beautiful out here today,” Kiwan said.

Some said they are now focused on what lies ahead – like another year of high school.

“I’m sad, but I’m also looking forward to the school year,” said King of Prussia’s Shriya.

While others have the start of their studies in mind.

“I look forward to meeting new people, but I’m also nervous about getting work and everything done,” said Amber Fernandes of Kenilworth, New Jersey.

Looking back on the season, the President of Steel Pier says that although many came out this year, it was nothing like last year.

Nevertheless, he hopes that people will continue to come to the rides on the boards

“Due to gas prices and inflation, per capita spending has probably been low, but this summer has been busy out here,” said Anthony Catanoso, Steel Pier’s president.
