Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson, Seattle Storm’s Breanna Stewart headline All-WNBA First Team

Reigning WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces and Breanna Stewart of Seattle Storm were unanimously selected to the 2022 All-WNBA First Team, the league announced Thursday before Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.

It was the third straight All-WNBA nod for Wilson, who will attempt to give the Aces a franchise-first championship with a win Thursday over the Connecticut Sun, and fifth overall for Stewart.

Chicago Sky’s Candace Parker, Aces’ Kelsey Plum and Phoenix Mercury’s Skylar Diggins-Smith completed the first team.

Amid a career year that also saw Plum receive her first All-Star offer and win All-Star Game MVP, Plum’s All-WNBA selection is the first of her career. Parker and Diggins-Smith compiled their 10th and sixth All-WNBA honors, respectively. Plum received 50 out of a possible 56 first-team votes (and five second-team votes), while Diggins-Smith received 21 first-team votes (26 for second-team) and Parker received 24 first-team votes (21 for second-team). second team) collected.

The Sun’s Alyssa Thomas and New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu also earned their first All-WNBA selections of their careers as second-team members, joining Los Angeles Sparks’ Nneka Ogwumike (fifth pick), The Sun’s Jonquel Jones (fourth) and – – in her final season before retirement – Sylvia Fowles of the Minnesota Lynx (eighth pick).

Thomas was the only second-team player to receive at least 20 first-team votes and still end up in the second-team. Stewart, Plum, Thomas and Parker took places 2-5 behind Wilson in the MVP voting.

Wilson also took home the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year award this summer, becoming the fifth player to be both the league’s MVP and DPOY in the same season.

Voting for the All-WNBA teams was conducted in a positionless format for the first time in league history. Only three of the 10 players that made up both teams were listed as guards. Each member of the first team will receive $10,300; and each player who makes the second team receives $5,150.
