According to local media and police reports, Las Vegas Review-Journal award-winning reporter Jeff German was found fatally stabbed outside his home on Saturday morning.
The Review-Journal reported that police responded to an 911 call around 10:30am on Saturday and found the 69-year-old German dead with stab wounds outside his home. Police believed German was involved in an altercation prior to the stabbing and that it appeared to be an isolated incident.
According to the Associated Press, police were looking for a suspect on Sunday.
“The Review-Journal family is devastated to lose Jeff,” Editor-in-Chief Glenn Cook said in a statement. “He was the gold standard of the news business. It’s hard to imagine what Las Vegas would be like today without him shining a bright light on dark places for many years.”
German was previously a longtime columnist and reporter for the Las Vegas Sun, where, according to his biography, he covered courts, politics, labor, government and organized crime. He joined Review-Journal in 2010 where his investigative work has covered stories of organized crime, political corruption and government failures.
He was the author of a 2001 organized crime book, Murder in Sin City: The Death of a Las Vegas Casino Boss, and was a writer and host of the second season of the true crime podcast, Bullied Up Vegas.”
German’s colleagues took to social media to remember his work and Presence in the editorial office.
“Mourning for mine talented friend and colleague‘ wrote Rhonda Prast, the paper’s deputy editor for investigations and engagement, on Twitter. “So proud to have worked with you on the I-Team for the last 3 years. A great loss for me and #Las Vegas.”
