LAX expects some 215,000 travelers at airport today

Sunday is expected to be one of the busiest days at Los Angeles International Airport since the COVID-19 pandemic began as people head home from the Thanksgiving holiday.

An estimated 215,000 travelers are expected to pass through LAX on Sunday, said airport spokesman Heath Montgomery. These numbers are just below the record-breaking Thanksgiving travel volume of 2019 and about 20,000 more passengers per day compared to 2021.

“We’re not quite normal yet,” Montgomery said, referring to pre-pandemic travel. “But at the same time, it will probably be the busiest day we’ve had since early 2020.”

The airport has not experienced any major delays or cancellations, Montgomery said, adding that 95% of Sunday morning flights were on time.
