Follow live coverage as Leicester City take on Liverpool in the Premier League today.
A six-game winning streak has put the Reds back in contention for a place in the top four despite a largely dismal season, but Jurgen Klopp’s side need to keep winning and hope Newcastle or Man United drop more points in their final games .
Dean Smith has not had the impact he hoped for since replacing Brendan Rodgers and Leicester are two points clear of the safe side with three games to play including this one – albeit they have a better goal difference than Leeds, Everton and Nottingham Forest who that still might prove important.
We bring you all the action and updates from today’s game in the live blog below:
Will Alisson be the architect of another huge success for Liverpool?
It is the 36th game of their Premier League season and Liverpool, who are late towards Champions League places, are away in the Midlands. They need a win and they draw in the 95th minute. And then the goalkeeper becomes the goal scorer. West Bromwich Albion suffered the humiliation of conceding Alisson in 2021. History is unlikely to be repeated in Leicester on Monday, even if that falls on the eve of the second anniversary of the only goal ever scored by a Liverpool goalkeeper. But here too, encouraged by their memories, they strive for the improbable.
“When I check for news on Twitter, this goal often shows up on my timeline,” Alisson said. “I’ve already seen it this week. It’s good, it made me feel good. I think how crazy it is that I scored a goal. For us it was a sign, so to speak, that something special was about to happen. Since I can be in the box 100 times, I don’t know if I’ll score again. I know now that I’m good at heading a ball, but hopefully we won’t need that again. I think this season we have special moments, [Diogo] Jota’s goal against Tottenham is very special; even at the last minute.”
If you make the top four, Alisson could go down in history as the architect of another great escape, albeit in a more conventional way.
