Leon Edwards takes Kamaru Usman’s UFC title with 5th-round head-kick KO

Leon Edwards shook the mixed martial arts world by knocking out Kamaru Usman with a stunning headbutt late in the fifth round to become the new UFC Welterweight Champion at UFC 278’s main event in Salt Lake City on Saturday night.

The knockout came at 4 minutes and 4 seconds of the final round in a fight that Usman had largely dominated.

Edwards ended Usman’s 15-fight winning streak.

The fight was a rematch of a December 2015 fight which Usman won by unanimous decision. Edwards has won 11 straight fights since that loss to Usman.
