Leonard Bernstein’s children enter this maestro debate, defend Bradley Cooper amid backlash for his portrayal of the composer.
While some online critics are slamming Cooper, a gentile actor, for donning a prosthetic nose for the role, the Bernstein family is rushing to defend him.
“Bradley Cooper has been with the three of us every step of the way in his amazing journey while making his film about our father,” the children said in a statement released on Instagram And Twittersigned by Jamie, Alexander and Nina Bernstein.
“We were deeply touched to witness the depth of his dedication, his loving engagement with our father’s music and the sheer, open-minded joy he brought to his exploration,” the statement continued.
The family noted that they support Cooper’s portrayal of the late composer and even the decision to wear a prosthetic limb on his nose.

“It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentation or misunderstanding of his efforts. It’s true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice big nose. Bradley has chosen to use makeup to enhance his likeness and we are totally in agreement with that,” the family said.
“We’re also sure that our father wouldn’t have minded either,” they assured. “Any sharp complaints on this subject strike us primarily as disingenuous attempts to belittle a successful person—a practice we have seen all too often in our own father.”
The family had nothing but love for Cooper and the making of to share maestro and the representation of their loved ones.

Coming after 2019 A star Is Born, Cooper is both lead actor and director Maestro. The film promises to follow Bernstein’s legendary career as a composer and his relationship with his wife, Felicia Montealegre, who he plays Carey Mulligan.
The teaser, which alternates between black-and-white scenes and stunning, colorful moments, follows the couple throughout their lives together and appears to explore the connection the couple had throughout the legendary composer’s career.
maestro will be released in select theaters on November 22nd and on Netflix on December 20th.
The film will also star Maya Hawke, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Silverman and Matt Bomer. The film’s producers include Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
