Lightning McQueen, Mater embark on epic trip in ‘Cars on the Road’

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Buckle up because we’re about to have quite a journey.

It’s Disney+ Day and to celebrate, our parent company is launching a brand new series from the creators of the popular animated films, Cars.

Best friends Lightning McQueen and Mater are back for an epic cross-country road trip in Cars on the Road.

This new series of animated shorts promises lots of laughs, old favorites and new characters.

Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy return as Lightning McQueen and Mater.

“What makes Mater happy is making other people happy,” Larry said. “He’s always the first there. He’s always the first to the tow truck. He wants to help. He’s a good, loyal friend. Everyone wants a friend like Mater.”

Larry says that over the past 16 years, since he began voicing the character, Mater has become his friend.

“Being able to speak Mater is incredible,” Larry said. “It makes me cry. It’s just great.”

Larry also said he and Mater are somehow alike.

“I think I went through everything that Mater went through in my real life,” Larry said. “I’m not that smart, but I like people and I love life. I think we’re kind of the same.”

There are nine different episodes with three different directors and an epic road trip.

The creators say this series will remind us of our own family adventures.

“You’re going to come out of this with some of the best memories you’ve ever had, but along the way you’ll have fought, you’ll have argued over little things, but you’ll learn a little bit about the others you never knew,” says Brian Fee , a director “The story has given us a wonderful opportunity.

Cars on the Road is now streaming on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Co. is the parent company of this ABC network.
