Lili Reinhart talks about the effects of unrealistic body standards

Lili Reinhart expresses frustration with her body image and particularly the impact of body dysmorphia and OCD on her body image.
The Riverdale actress went to X, formerly Twitter, to educate ourselves about body standards for women, particularly how thinness is glamorized.
“I wish there were more average-sized arms for women in mainstream media,” Reinhart wrote. “My body dysmorphia is going crazy because I feel like my arms should be half their current size?”

“We’ve glorified these skinny arms that most of us can only achieve when you’re literally a teenager,” she added.
“I really wonder how anyone survives or gets through this life without suffering from severe BD,” the actress added in another tweet.
“Maybe it’s a cruelly amplified version combined with my OCD, but damn. The amount of time I’ve wasted thinking about my arms over the last few months is crazy.”
“I wanted to spread my own thoughts to let other women know that they are not alone,” Reinhart concluded.

This isn’t the first time Reinhart has spoken out about the issues she faces when it comes to her body image. Last year, Reinhart wrote on Instagram about struggling with “obsessive thoughts” about her body.
“I’ve been struggling with obsessive thoughts about my body/weight for the past few months and in the last week it’s gotten pretty bad,” began Reinhart, 25. I hope none of you who are also struggling don’t feels so alone.”
“I’m here with you,” she continued. “It’s a challenge to look at your body with love instead of criticism. It’s a practice I’m still learning.”
The “Riverdale” star went on to say that she “didn’t think that working in this industry, which is so obsessed with women’s bodies and weights, could ever affect the acceptance and positivity of my own body… but it has.” “

She added: “I wish I hadn’t grown up in a time where the media only worshiped one woman’s size.”
Reinhart admitted that she wished she could “love.” [her body] more” and noted that she is “trying” to do so.
“My body has carried me for 25 years,” she wrote. “All my scars, tears, trauma… I wish I could love it more, even if it doesn’t look the same as it did when I was 20. But I try. I know that my body definitely deserves the same love and admiration.”
