Little League World Series: El Segundo to play Texas team

It will be California vs. Texas on Monday night Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, with El Segundo assumption Needville, Texas in a 4 p.m. game on ESPN.

El Segundo has all five of its pitchers available, but manager Danny Boehle said next week will be strategy week as there are restrictions on when you can next use a pitcher based on how many pitches they’ve thrown.

El Segundo hopes for a win on Monday to advance to the semifinals on Wednesday, followed by the US Championship game on August 26 and the final on August 27 against the international champions.

“Now you play every other day,” said Boehle, “now it’s all about the strategy.”

El Segundo gets back first baseman Jaxon Kalish, who missed Thursday night’s 4-3 opening win by El Segundo due to a gastrointestinal infection.

Kalish’s return gives El Segundo an impressive batting trio in Brody Brooks and Louis Lappe.

“He just hit six home runs,” Boehle said in training on Saturday. “He is healthy.”

Located 41 miles from Houston, Needville has a population of just over 3,000 as of 2020.
