Pittsburgh police respond to an active shooting in the Garfield neighborhood, the Pittsburgh Public Safety tweeted.

Around 11 a.m. ET Wednesday, Pittsburgh Public Safety urged residents to avoid the 4800 block area of ​​Broad Street and North Mathilda Street because of a shooting.

“This is an extremely active situation where shots continue to be fired,” they wrote on Twitter/X about 20 minutes after the incident.

A reporter for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said that “hundreds of shots” were fired and multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the incident.

Almost an hour later, at around 12 p.m. ET, officers began evacuating residents of nearby homes to safety from the shooting.
