Liverpool said the 27-year-old had to leave and reunite with Divock Origi

Jose Enrique has stated it is best if Naby Keita leaves Liverpool and joins AC Milan where he can secure a “reunion” with Divock Origi, as he posted on Instagram.

In the summer, Origi walked out the door and signed with the Italian giants when his contract at Anfield expired.

Now that Keita’s current contract with Liverpool also expires this summer, unless the midfielder signs a new contract or secures a transfer elsewhere in January, he will also leave for free when the last ball is kicked in May.

If that happens it should come as no surprise as the 27-year-old has struggled during his time in England, even more so with not being able to stay out of the treatment room.

Nonetheless, amid rumors that AC Milan are interested in signing Keita in 2023, former left-back Enrique shared that it was now time for him to move on.

“You’re going to let Keita go for free?” asked Enrique. “I think it’s for the best for us and for him too.

“Also the Italian league is not as physically demanding as the Premier League and he will get a reunion with Origi.”

The midfield area has been a major concern for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp for some time and it’s the position that needs serious improvement.

In 12 months, that position could change radically with Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving and then adding new faces.

In truth, the Reds need that refreshment and change of pace in January, from Jude Bellingham to Morocco’s World Cup superstar Sofyan Amrabat, many names have been thrown in close to coming in.

That won’t be fixed in a window, however, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Liverpool’s midfield continues to struggle this season to regain that consistent form from last season.
