Liverpool superstar faces race against time to be fit for UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid

Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara loves the race against time to get fit for the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The Spaniard picked up the injury shortly before half-time in a 3-1 win over Wolves in Sunday’s final Premier League game. With just six days to go before a crucial game in Paris, Alcantara was suspected for the trip following what was later diagnosed as an Achilles injury.

Coach Jurgen Klopp is currently sweating because of Alcantara’s fitness. According to Empire of the Kop, his participation on Saturday depends on how he responds to treatment in the coming days.

His strike comes at a time when Fabinho is also in a similar condition after the Brazilian suffered a hamstring problem in recent weeks.

He has missed their last three games because of that and could start in Liverpool’s midfield, if deemed fit, to reinforce Alcantara’s void. The fact that both first-choice midfielders are in doubt because of injury is an ideal position to be in, especially with the final just days away.

Klopp has also confirmed that outgoing striker Divock Origi will not feature in Real Madrid’s performance after picking up an injury during Sunday’s training session. He is set to join newly crowned Serie A champions AC Milan on a free transfer.

On the Real Madrid side, the La Liga champions have a near-perfect health record, with only David Alaba a minor concern. The Austrian star has missed their last five top-flight matches because of a collaborator problem. However, coach Carlo Ancelotti then confirmed that he was dropped from the final team of their domestic game day just as a precaution.

Ancelotti also said that Alaba will be available for the Paris final. The former Bayern Munich star has been a key figure in their defence since moving from the Bundesliga giants last summer on a free transfer. Alaba’s experience could be the key to countering Liverpool’s fearsome attack.
