It is the only plan that any British politician or economist could offer that has any chance of succeeding. Unfortunately, it most likely won’t work either, and mostly through no fault of Ms. Truss. The UK has been suffering from a productivity crisis for years, often cautiously dubbed the ‘puzzle’. To the extent that Britain’s economy has grown over the past decade, it has done so mainly because a higher proportion of the population was at work, not because people were working more productively.
