But that changed again thanks to Lizzo. You may have noticed that your content has been flooded with one particular song: her new single “About Dam Time”. It’s a pretty standard Lizzo: attractive, powerful, classic but without trying too hard to refer to anything. It’s completely inexpensive and fun.

In the process, it seems Lizzo has researched not only how to create a successful click on TikTok, but also what makes it happen organically. It’s a feat Lil Nas X has done best so far, and she ended up with her final single “Rumors” featuring Cardi B. recreating the strut for Cardi’s verse B. Lizzo joined the trend a bit, and the song performed moderately, but not to the extent of her breakthrough “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell.”

Now with “About Dam Time,” Lizzo has put the song’s success in the hands of her and her TikTok followers. She actively promotes the sound on her site, interweaving it with a mix of tried and true pop-star marketing tactics, typically author moves, ads for her new shapewear line Yitty, and even a video celebrating the announcement of Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Appointment to the Supreme Court.
