Local organization hosts event to discuss health issues facing the Latino community

HARRISBURG, Pa. – On Thursday, Latino Connection hosted a half-day seminar to facilitate discussion and education on the top issues related to Latino Health in Pennsylvania.

They say the goal is to raise awareness and have focused, solution-oriented discussions about building inclusive policies to deliver health care in Latino communities.

Some of the topics they discussed were: advances and obstacles in creating equitable policies, housing, community engagement and appropriation.

“The purpose of hosting this State of the Union Latino Health is to bring together policymakers in both the public and private sectors to help develop policies that will essentially help us break down these community barriers to one leading a healthier, more active and more engaged lifestyle,” said George Fernandez, CEO of Latino Connection.

According to the organization, Pennsylvania’s Latino population has grown by more than 48% over the past decade.
