Daedalic Entertainment and publisher Nacon have announced a delay for LOTR: Gollum, which previously had a September 2022 release date.
Nacon and Daedalic originally announced the adventure with Gollum in early 2019, promising to take players on a journey unlike any other.
Unlike some of the more action-oriented interactive experiences set in Middle-earth, LOTR: Gollum features gameplay that’s mostly focused on stealth.
The companies showcased some of Gollum’s stealth mechanics during the Nacon Connect stream earlier this month. However, the footage raised many questions about the polish of the project, especially given the late 2022 launch date.
LOTR: Gollum release date postponement announced
Gollum no longer arrives in September.
Daedalic and Nacon have issued a press release confirming that Lord of the Rings: Gollum will no longer hit stores this September.
In order to deliver the “best possible experience”, developers and publishers decided to delay the release of the stealth title “by a few months”.
In particular, such a step will allow “more time to polish”. Nacon has yet to announce a new due date for Gollum, but specific details on the matter should emerge in the not-too-distant future.
After the release of the sneak-based gameplay footage, many were quick to point out the immature visual quality. The seemingly rudimentary mechanics also left a lot to be desired.
If the Gollum gameplay in question represents the experience as a whole, a delay in LOTR: Gollum will likely benefit the final product.
All in all, the project seems quite ambitious. Along with the emphasis on stealth, Daedalic’s new Lord of the Rings adventure will deeply explore the broken minds of Gollum and Sméagol.
Whenever the title is released, it will be on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
