With a new TV series on Amazon Prime Video, six (very long) movies, and of course 12 Middle Earth-set original books by JRR Tolkien, you’re probably wondering what order to watch. Lord of the Rings, Hobbits and Power rings. Author JRR Tolkien is collectively responsible for how many of us understand fantasy today. 1. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)

Amazon’s Rings of Power taken from the aftermath of the war against Morgoth and the dawn of the Second Age. It is not taken from a book but several texts that make up the legend of Middle-earth: Silmarillion, a collection of the history of the continent, partly written by Christopher, son of Tolkien in 1977. The kingdom of men and dwarves is at its peak, while the elves become suspicious of how easily people are corrupted. Sauron, lieutenant of Morgoth, will appear to lure the elves into creating the Rings of Power; The 19 Rings are given to the leaders of Men, Elves and Dwarves, binding with the strength and will to govern each race. But in secret, Sauron forged another ring stronger than all the others combined. “One ring to rule them all,” as the famous phrase. The great thing about Amazon’s upcoming series is that you don’t have to watch any of the six Peter Jackson movies because the story is told in Rings of Power predates everything by about 3,000 years. However, there will be a few familiar characters, namely the elven warrior Galadriel (Goblins are immortal and therefore do not age) and Isildur, King of Gondor, whose story will be supplemented compared to Peter Jackson’s opening The fellowship of the ring.

Today, Tolkien’s Hobbits is a single book, but director Peter Jackson stretched the story into three films for the original three volumes of the novel. This is the first time. Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, is comfortable with his life in The Shire. However, he is reluctantly recruited by the wizard Gandalf the Gray on a journey to help a group of dwarves regain their homeland and steal treasure from the ferocious dragon, Smaug. While passing through the Misty Mountains, the group is ambushed and flees. Bilbo stumbles upon Sauron’s One Ring in a cave where it has been kept safe by the creature Gollum for 500 years.

3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (two thousand and thirteen)

In the second Hobbit part, Bilbo’s adventures with the dwarves continue through the Misty Mountains. At the request of the elven warrior Galadriel, Gandalf investigates a growing evil in the ancient ruins, marked by script in Mordor’s sinister language, signifying Sauron’s arrival as the the next Dark Lord. By chance, Bilbo wakes Smaug. The dragon reveals that it knows of the dwarves’ plot to take back their gold and their homeland, and warns of Sauron’s return.

4. The Hobbits: Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

The last part of Hobbits trilogy and a prequel to Lord of the Rings. Sauron’s sinister army of allies grows stronger. Smaug was defeated, the dwarves returned to the Lonely Mountain, and Bilbo returned to the Shire with Sauron’s ring despite Gandalf’s warning. It will remain there until the sorcerer returns to wish Bilbo a happy 111th birthday 60 years later, that’s where Lord of the Rings The trio begins.

5. The Lord of the Rings: Friendship of the Ring (2001)

This is the first film directed by Peter Jackson LOTR trilogy (and the first of Tolkien’s three-volume saga) and where we meet Bilbo’s grandson, Frodo. As the Ring began to call for its owner, the great sorcerer Gandalf recruited Frodo and his friends, Sam, Merry and Pippin to bring it out of the Shire. Seeking council from the wise elves of Rivendell, Fellowship of the Ring was created to return the ring to the place where it was forged, in Mordor, and the only place where it could be destroyed. Nine companions are entrusted to achieve this goal: Legolas the Elf; Gimli the Dwarf; four hobbits; and two men: Aragon, heir to the throne of Gondor, and Boromir. Great quest begins.

6. The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers (2002)

By the end of the first film, the fellowship is split into three parts: Frodo and Sam, guided by Gollum, go on a mission to destroy the ring; and Aragon, Gimli and Legolas, who swore not to abandon Merry and Pippin, who had been captured. A new, powerful enemy emerges; one man had pledged an alliance with Sauron, and the war for Middle-earth was increasingly fierce. In the opinion of this humble writer, this is LOTR movie, with epic battles and some charming new characters.

7. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003)

The last part of LOTR trilogy of works. Frodo and Sam continued to the foot of Mount Doom. The men and elves put their differences aside once again to unite against Sauron’s evil army. Gollum and the fate of the Ring are sealed, and a new king will ascend to the throne of Gondor as a symbol of good triumphing over evil. The Hobbits returned to The Shire to live out the days in their idyllic home with rich memories of their adventures.
