Road to the Champions League Final of Liverpool and Real Madrid
Looking at their respective paths in the league, one could argue that the Reds have been easier than Los Blancos.
Liverpool top the table above Atletico Madrid, Porto and AC Milan. They then beat Inter Milan 2-1 in the round of 16 before beating Benfica 6-4 in the quarter-finals. The Red Devils then unexpectedly sent Villarreal off in the semi-finals with an aggregate score of 5-2 to reach the final.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, also top their table above Inter Milan, Sheriff Tiraspol and Shaktar Donetsk. They then made an unbelievable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16. The La Liga side were 2-0 down until the second half of the second leg but won 3-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Benzema.
The Spanish team then had another comeback against Chelsea in the quarter-finals. They were trailing 4-3 until the 79th minute of the second half. Rodrygo’s 80th-minute goal had to go into extra time before Benzema brought the win for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid’s comeback streak continues in the semi-final against Manchester City. Down 5-3 until the 90th minute of the second leg, they won 6-5 in extra time.
Los Blancos’ journey is truly a sight full of determination and grit. The Reds will be hoping to avoid becoming another victim of the 13-time champion and secure a seventh title for themselves.
