Madison Keys, Borna Coric withdraw from Wimbledon citing injuries

WIMBLEDON, England — Madison Keys, the 2017 US Open runner-up, and Borna Coric withdrew from Wimbledon on Saturday due to injuries.

The tournament starts on Monday.

Keys, an American seeded 19th at the All England Club, withdrew due to an injured abdominal muscle.

She was replaced in the field by Coco Vandeweghe, a two-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon and a two-time semifinalist at other Grand Slam tournaments, who lost in qualifying this week. Vandeweghe’s first round opponent will be Elena Rybakina, number 17.

Coric is a Croatian who came into the field from injury thanks to a protected ranking. He cited a shoulder problem for his withdrawal.

He was drawn against 12th seed Diego Schwartzman and that spot will be filled by an undisclosed player who lost in qualifying.
