Formerly known as Valley Garage and then Coulter, there has been a car dealership on the London Road site for 60 years.

Staff will be relocated to retailers in nearby Gloucester and Cheltenham. GloucesterLive reported.

Bristol Street Motors sells 15 car brands from 232 locations across the UK.

A spokesman for the company said: “The decision to close our Ford dealership Bristol Street Motors in Stroud was not taken lightly.”

“The group regularly reviews its franchise dealer and property portfolio to ensure we can operate the business profitably and successfully.

“In line with changes to Ford’s UK representation plan, our Stroud dealership was removed as a new car franchise site some time ago.

“There is no prospect of being able to expand the dealership with an alternative franchise.”
