Major search launched for paddle boarder missing off the coast of Orkney

A BIG search is currently underway for a border paddler who has gone missing off the coast of a Scottish island.

The paddle boarder was reported missing off Orkney around 9pm last night.

A Longhope lifeboat is assisting the search in the Scappa Flow along with a Sumburgh rescue helicopter.

Coastguard teams from St Margaret’s Hope and Kirkwall have also been called in to help.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “We are currently conducting a search for a missing paddle boarder in the Orkney Islands.”

“We have the Longhope Lifeboat on hand to conduct a search of the Scappa Flow area along with the St Margaret’s Hope Coastguard Rescue Team and the Kirkwall Coastguard Rescue Team and a rescue helicopter from Sumburgh.”
