Authorities have arrested a 34-year-old man after he found and dug up human remains at a trailer park in Huntington Beach.
Residents near the RV park began filing reports of a foul odor on Saturday. Police arrived at the scene on Slater Avenue around 3 p.m. and found the remains of an unidentified adult female.
“Based on the evidence found at the scene and the preliminary investigation, officers determined the death was suspicious,” said Jessica Cuchilla, spokeswoman for the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Police first brought in a man identified as a person of interest in the case for questioning Sunday morning. The man, Antonio Padilla of Huntington Beach, was arrested later that evening on suspicion of murder, Cuchilla said.
Police declined to give further details on how the woman’s remains were found or the woman’s identity.
Investigations are ongoing and police said there was no threat to public safety at this time.
