Man asks if he’s the a-hole after banning his son’s partner from the wedding

The groom says his future in-laws are “conservative” and “of course they wouldn’t want their kids to witness a gay couple at our wedding.”
A 49-year-old man has asked the internet if he’s the “A-hole” after banning his son’s partner from his wedding – and the Reddit community has answered with a resounding yes.
The groom, whose post received almost 10,000 comments Within hours of appearing online, he attempted to explain his side of the story, but was met with overwhelming criticism of his choices.
While the tale of bigotry and family drama certainly sparked serious debate on Reddit, the veracity of the poster’s story cannot be verified. Nonetheless, Redditor readers took the post at face value and made it clear how they really felt.

The groom began his post by declaring, “I (49 months) will be remarrying my fiancee (41 years) in a month and the wedding preparations have been going well except for one issue.”
He then wrote, “My fiancee’s family is mostly conservative and therefore not very supportive of same-sex relationships, and my fiancee’s siblings are planning to bring their children to our wedding and they obviously do not want their children to witness a gay couple.” So we decided to uninvite my son’s (21 million) partner (in his 20s) from our wedding so we can avoid such problems.”
The man then says he was disappointed in his son for not responding more positively to his partner’s invitation.
“I thought my son was mature and understood our side,” he wrote, “but instead he made a big fuss about it and said I was being homophobic and embarrassed towards him and that his boyfriend couldn’t do it to the wedding.” go, then neither will he.
He then complained, “I feel like he’s being really unreasonable, especially since he and his boyfriend haven’t even been together that long. So it’s not like he really has the right to be invited to any family events yet, and my fiancée takes my invitation with her.” However, my son is vehemently convinced that I’m an idiot, and even has his mother think so practically allied against me on this matter.

Responses to the post were overwhelmingly “YTA” (You’re the A-hole).
One Reddit user simply commented, “Are you more interested in your SON or some aloof homophobes you rarely see?”
While another wrote: “You just showed your son where your loyalties lie. With your cowardly fiancee and her homophobic family instead of your own child. Don’t be surprised if one day you are not invited to his wedding.”
“YTA and you know it. You uninvited him to please homophobes,” read another comment. “You are setting a precedent by allowing your wife’s family to treat him terribly and forcing him to go into hiding. You happily marry into this cause without the slightest desire to stand up for your son or your own beliefs (when you say “I’m not really homophobic.)”
Almost 10,000 more comments followed, almost all of whom fully agreed.
The post was eventually removed by Reddit moderators “due to the status of the original poster’s account.”
