Man dies after horror crash in Glasgow city centre as heartbroken family pay tribute to ‘devoted’ husband and dad

A MAN has died in a horrific accident in Glasgow city center over the weekend.

Christopher Hanton, from Chryston, North Lanarkshire, was hit by a vehicle on George Street on Saturday night.

Mercy crews took the injured father, 40, to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was fighting for his life.

Police confirmed today that he tragically died in hospital.

His heartbroken family paid tribute to the “devoted and devoted” husband and father, saying they were left “truly devastated” by his death.

In a statement, they said: “Chris has been a devoted husband to Lynne and a loving father to Zak with many friends and family.

“We’re all really devastated.”

Police confirmed that a 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the accident.

He appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

Another report was made to the public prosecutor’s office.

Detective Inspector Sarah-Jane Finnigan said: “At this time our thoughts are with Christopher’s family and friends.

“We would like to ask that their privacy be respected as they process their tragic loss.”
