He took the bowl home to give to his fiancée, Lynsey, for lunch.

She was just stirring the bowl when she noticed something black between the crispy onions.

Simon said the black object smelled like an onion but had legs.

He said: “It smelled like an onion but looked a little odd and had legs.”

“I even put it to my face to smell it.

“Absolutely disgusting.”

The Poke Bowl consists of salmon, pickled red cabbage, edamame beans, grilled yellow peppers and crispy onions, served with rice and soy-sesame dressing.

And the couple says the spider was cooked alongside the crispy onions because it looked like it had been fried.

They immediately contacted Tesco to complain and were told to go back to the store to fill out a form.

The supermarket said the form would then be sent to specialists who would figure out what went wrong.

However, Simon was frustrated and said there was no immediate urgency to resolve the issue.

The 39-year-old said: “Tesco said we had to go through the process without there being any immediate urgency to fix the problem.”

“They came back at some point and said they could get in touch with the supplier but they didn’t get a reply.

“There was absolutely no offer to replace anything or give us a refund, they just kept saying it had to go through the specialist.”

“I didn’t even think it was worth my time. I could go back in with the bowl and the spider and they wouldn’t do anything.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “We’re sorry to hear that.

“We have very high standards for the food in our stores and we carry out strict controls.

“If the customer returns the product to their local store, we can investigate further with the brand and offer a replacement product or a refund.”

Yo! Sushi was asked for comment.
