Man killed in horror Paisley flat fire as emergency crews lock down street

A man has died after a massive fire destroyed a home in Paisley.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident on Lang Street in the town of Renfrewshire around 5pm last night.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched six units to tackle the top floor apartment and roof fire.

Firefighters battled the flames, which spread clouds of dark smoke across the area.

Officers cordoned off the street and nearby Violet Street as residents were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.

Scottish Police confirmed this morning that the body of a man was discovered at the property.

He has yet to be identified.

Officials have launched an investigation into the tragedy while the road remains closed to begin their investigation.

A police spokesman said: “At around 5pm on Friday 18 August we were called to a fire at a flat on Lang Street in Paisley.

“Emergency services were at the scene and the body of a man was found inside.

“Investigations are ongoing to officially identify him and determine the cause of the fire.

“The road closures on Lang Street and Violet Street remain in place.”
