Man pistol-whips woman in Beverly Grove, flees with jewelry

A man handgun-whipped a 71-year-old woman at her home in Beverly Grove on Wednesday afternoon before stealing expensive jewelry and fleeing the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

A home burglary was reported at 2:26 p.m. in the 6600 block of 5th Street, said Officer Rosario Cervantes, a police spokesman.

A man hit the resident of the home with a pistol and demanded access to a safe that contained high-quality jewelry, Cervantes said.

The woman suffered bruises and lacerations and was treated at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics before being released. She is expected to make a full recovery.
