Many means. Meghan Markle had Mariah Carey on her podcast and they didn’t hold back. Mariah appeared on the second episode of Meghan’s Spotify podcast Antique model and the two talked about what it means to be a “diva”.
Meghan recounted that she was “not connected” to being a diva. Mariah replied, “Sometimes you give us diva moments, Meghan!” The “We Belong Together” singer clarified, “It’s the image. A lot of them are pictures. Pretend that you’re not so pretty, you don’t have everything, and you don’t always have fancy clothes. You probably won’t get many diva styles. “
Meghan was startled by her comment before Mariah explained herself. “That stopped me when she called me diva. You can’t see me clearly, but I’m starting to sweat a little. I started fidgeting in my chair in this private uprising,” said the Duchess of Sussex. “My mind was really just spinning with the crap that she had to read or click on to get her to say so. I just kept thinking in that moment, ‘Is my girl going to fall apart quickly? Did she really not see me? ‘”

She then explains what Mariah means to adore the founder of Archewell. “When she says diva, she’s talking about the way I dress, my posture, my clothes, the quote she sees. She meant to refer to the diva as a compliment, but I heard it as a dig,” said Meghan. “She means it’s luxurious, like aspirational.”
When Meghan asked Mariah if “diva” was “a compliment or a criticism”, Mariah said she felt the word was “both”. She revealed that the word has duality. “People take it as a compliment – some people, and then some people take it as ‘Oh what a diva’ she is.” She continued and explained that she was always meant for opera because her mother was an opera singer. “I knew the origin of the word, but then I knew when I was growing up like I said, my mother went, talking about a friend or something: ‘So-and-so is diva.” I I don’t know if that’s bad [or] well – that’s how she said it,” she said. “It was the grandeur of all that I envisioned.”
Mariah went on to say how the word grew for her. “When things develop in the past — 20 years, I don’t know the numbers — it’s like: a diva to me, they mean, you’re usually a successful woman,” she explains. explain. “You are not a good boss. It’s not okay if you’re a strong woman. You should be compact. ” She continued, “The diva thing has grown and it continues to grow, and I play with it. It’s for laughs, I wear this because I like how it looks. I do not care. Now it is overused. Like, ‘she’s a cupcake diva!’ I think they use it as a throwaway adjective.”
