Marvel MMO From DC Universe Online Dev Canceled

End Global 7, a co-op comprised of prominent development studios including DC Universe Online developer Daybreak Game Company, announced last November that a new Marvel MMORPG was in early development. Now End Global 7 has announced that it has been cancelled.

This message comes across Eurogamer, which first reported on the End Global 7 statement released today. In the statement, the company says it is reassessing things like risk profiles, investments and portfolio strategies and that development of Daybreak Games Marvel MMO has been halted as a result.

“EG7 announced today that it will be ceasing development of the Marvel Project at Daybreak Games,” the statement said. “Based on the reassessment of the development risk profile, investment size and long-term product portfolio strategy for the group, the Board has decided to change development priorities and reallocate resources within the group to focus on alternative long-term semester projects.”

EG7 had planned to invest more than SEK 500 million (US$50.5 million) in the Marvel project over the next three years. The company will now instead “diversify” this investment into several smaller projects within the studio group. These include previously announced upgrades to The Lord of the Rings Online and DC Universe Online, as well as “new ways to play with our first, original IPs.”

It sounds like EG7 has washed its hands from Marvel, or vice versa, as it doesn’t look like a Marvel game is in the publisher’s future. Read about the graphics upgrade and massive expansion of DC Universe Online in 2023.
