A new report says 9-year-olds’ math and reading scores in the United States have fallen to levels they were two decades ago.
The National Center for Education Statistics has released a new progress report for 2022.
It found that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a drastic impact on American school children.
This is the first national report to compare student performance before and after the pandemic began.
The organization says math scores fell a total of seven points and reading scores fell five points.
It marks the biggest drop in reading since 1990 and the first time math scores have fallen.
