Matt Rife Responds to Critics of Domestic Violence Joke With ‘Sorry’ Link to Special Needs Helmets

Comedian Matt Rife isn’t shying away from the controversy sparked by his opening joke about domestic violence in his first Netflix comedy special – instead, he appears to be sparking new controversy by sending critics to a special needs helmet website.

In response, Rife accepted his offer Instagram stories on Monday night not to defend or apologize for his joke, but to appeal to an entirely different demographic and potentially stir up another nest of controversy.

The link itself was titled “Tap here to solve your problem.” But it didn’t go to an apology page. Instead it links to Medicine store Special Needs Helmets Website Page.
A few hours later, Rife returned to his stories with an obvious response to that first post. “We’re on the naughty list,” he captioned a new picture with a winking smile emoji. This link was captioned “This time it’s real” with a crying and laughing emoji.
It made the fans go Latest link on your own Youtube page where he teases a couple in his crowd about how they met. The piece is labeled “Bad Santa,” which explains its reference to the stories.

The original offensive joke was invented by Rife, who said he and a friend were at a Ratchet restaurant in Baltimore when they realized their waiter had a black eye. When the friend wondered why she hadn’t been brought into the kitchen so customers wouldn’t have to see, Rife replied, “Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook she wouldn’t have that black eye.”
Immediately after that opening joke, Rife seemed to gauge the audience’s reaction, telling the crowd that he was “just testing the waters to see if y’all are going to enjoy it or not.”
“I think if we start the show with domestic violence,” he continued, “the rest of the show should go smoothly.”

Rife, who admitted in an interview with diversity Since his fan base originally consisted of women due to his viral success on TikTok, he wanted to prove with this first major special that his material is suitable for both genders. “I would argue that this special is much more for men,” he told the outlet.
