Max Verstappen leaves girlfriend Kelly Piquet alone at a wedding in Portugal – here’s the shocking reason why

MAX Verstappen recently canceled plans for a wedding to his girlfriend in Portugal.

Kelly Piquet ended up attending the wedding alone and posted pictures of herself in a red feathered dress to Instagram.

She captioned the post “lady in red‘ but didn’t explain why her boyfriend didn’t attend the event.

You can find the answer on Twitch, where Verstappen streamed his participation in the virtual 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

The current F1 World Champion was racing alongside fellow member Chris Lulham as part of his virtual F1 Team Redline streaming.

Verstappen apparently made a last-minute decision to join the competition after Lulham complained about the workload for his upcoming trials.

Lulham was on the phone chatting with Verstappen while the F1 driver attended the race.

During the race, Lulham tries to defend himself and says: “If I had been racing, I would have had to start with about a five-hour break.”

But Verstappen quickly interrupts him with the words: “I canceled a wedding for this.”

Lulham hints that Verstappen would have liked to give up his plans, but said: “Don’t tell me this isn’t what you’d rather be doing.”

Verstappen replies: “I love sim racing, but sometimes you have to think about the common good.”

Verstappen has previously revealed that he is almost as passionate about virtual Formula 1 racing as he is about the real race.

He criticized the organizers of Le Mans Virtual after problems with the servers prevented him from finishing.

He recently installed a full F1 simulator on his £12million private jet so he can train on the go.

Despite Verstappen’s absence, Piquet appears to have had a blast at the wedding. A fan commented on her post that Piquet even managed to catch the bouquet.
